Parents
When I had the original idea for this website I was thinking of how I could best support teachers in the classroom who often have fantastic ideas for resources but are often limited by the time they can spend planning them; however, I am now the parent of a Year 1 pupil and from standing in the school playground at the end of the day talking with other parents I can see there is a very real need to support the parents too. Regular homework, even in Key Stage 1, is now causing parents to feel anxious and doubt their own ability in the subject, all too often this ends up with both the parent and pupil resenting the subject with an increasingly negative attitude towards Mathematics.
This part of the website will help parents to find useful resources that are already out there to support their children; attempt to explain how Mathematics is taught in schools within the wider context of how schools work; unpick the key terms used in current classrooms to demonstrate that they really aren't that different from when we went to school and encourage a problem solving attitude to real life problems.
